Married for over 22 years to her husband, Albert, they own a successful small business. Jill knows what it takes to balance a budget, create jobs, and meet a payroll. As your State Representative, Jill is the voice of our district and DeKalb County at the State Capitol. She serves as a member of the House leadership in her role as a Committee Chairman.

Jill takes a lead on the Issues

MARTOC – Committee Chairman -  Jill is Chairman of the Committee to oversee MARTA. This year she passed legislation to provide MARTA with over $45 million for operating funds. Since 2004, MARTA has received $12 million in State funding for new buses, maintenance, and the new Breeze Card fare system.

Appropriations – Public Safety Sub-Committee, Secretary -  As Secretary of the Appropriations Sub-Committee on Public Safety, Jill works with the budgets of the GBI, State Patrol, Judicial Branch, Attorney General, and Corrections. During this term, Jill passed legislation to equip a new urban motorcycle unit for the Georgia State Patrol.

Education  - As a member of the House Education committee, Jill re-wrote the charter school laws in 2005 to allow more tax money to be used for direct student instruction.

Environmental Protection  - Jill passed legislation to phase out the use of MTBE in gasoline. This poisonous additive has polluted our water sources and increased the cost of fuel. The MTBE phase out will provide a smooth transition for using alternative fuels such as ethanol.

Taxpayer’s Best Friend  - Jill is a co-sponsor on legislation to freeze our property tax assessments and to require audits for County and Authority bonds. Voters will be able to approve the tax freeze in the November election.
